DJK CUT: Former Hawkeye football star Derrell Johnson-Koulianos has been cut from the Iowa Barnstormers
The Barnstormers have released former breaking Hawkeye receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos. Barnstomers General Manager John Pettit confirms the Arena Football League team placed Johnson-Koulianos on AFL reassignment, which is another word for cut.

The player known to Hawkeye fans as DJK was arrested for drug possession prior to the 2010 Insight Bowl and was dismissed from the Iowa football team by head coach Kirk Ferentz. Pettit says the Barnstormers had no disciplinary problems or off-field issues with DJK and the choice to release him was strictly a football decision.

Coach Mike Hohensee said, "Main reason (for DJK being cut) was short training camp. He wasn't catching on as quickly to indoor game as other receivers. I brought in nine, two more than usual. DJK wasn't getting it (indoor game). If this was outdoor game, he'd still be here. He'll do well in Montreal. He just wasn't getting the walls and motion."

The CFL's Montreal Alouettes also signed Johnson-Koulianos to a contract, and he expects to join them next season.

In a text, Johnson-Koulianos wrote, "Just gettin' ready for Canada. No issues. All love. Great people in the Barnstormers organization."
